Trigger points are irritable knots that radiate pain when pressed, while tender points hurt only with direct pressure. Though both cause muscle tightness, only trigger points refer pain elsewhere. For relief, apply cold compresses to tender points to ease localized discomfort. Use heat on trigger points to increase blood flow and deactivate them until massage therapy can be received.
